Classification and Hearing Specialist
Definition
The position of Hearing and Classification Specialist was established to deal with the complexities of
an increasing jail population. One of the primary responsibilities of this position is to recommend
suitable housing locations within one of our three facilities for each inmate. The other responsibility
is to hold Administrative Hearings for inmates.
In this position, you will complete Criminal History checks, review disciplinary history, review reports,
interview inmates, compile data, complete reports and make recommendations. You may also initiate the
judicial review of an inmates status and hold Administrative Hearings with inmates.
This job will require you to establish and maintain effective relationships with inmates, staff and
the public. It will challenge you to conduct follow up investigations and remain impartial through out
the hearing process. It will require you to be thorough in the evaluations of inmates.
Employment Standards
In order to be hired as a Hearing and Classification Specialist, you must have graduated from an
accredited four year college or university with an emphasis on Criminal Justice or related field.
Desirable work experience for this position would include one or more years of work with in a jail or
correctional facility. This would include work as a Probation and Parole Agent.
Successful candidates will have to pass an extensive background investigation.
